TRAINING AND FACILITATING
Are you needing a training program

Circle Works has extensive experience in the development, facilitation, and evaluation of training programs,
gatherings, and workshops. This includes delivery within land-based and community based settings; and within
organizations and educational environments.
Some examples include:
°°Designed, delivered and evaluated a model for training social workers on cross-cultural sensitivity with input
from African Nova Scotian, Mi'kmaq and Acadian community members.
°°Designed and delivered a series of Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge courses, workshops, and land-based
intensives specifically for counselors.
°°Designed and implemented a Care for Caregivers Program, using expressive therapies in an open studio format.
Consisted of five, twelve week programs for counselors, foster parents, teachers and other helping professionals
in the community.
°°Designed and delivered courses in Education, Health, Social Work and Counselling, specializing in Equity Issues,
Cross-cultural Training, Indigenous Peoples Knowledge, and Gender Issues, particularly with a focus on violence.
°°Designed, delivered and evaluated train-the-trainer programs for professionals intervening in intimate partner
violence with input from policing, crown prosecutor and social work professionals.
°°Developed resources and materials targeting family violence and violence prevention for policy makers,
program/service designers and service deliverers who are working to improve rural responses to womens and girls
experiences of violence.
°°Developed and facilitated a training program for herbalists for the Maritime School of Health and Well-being.
°°Developed and facilitated various plant/tree medicine, alternative lifestyle and ecological relationship workshops,
indoors and out, for various communities and individuals, both young and adult.

distance delivery.
°°Provision of leadership in implementing Academic Visioning Initiatives
regarding Indigenous Peoples Knowledges within post-secondary settings.
°°Provision of leadership and direction for an Indigenous Counselling
Degree program.
°°Recruitment, training and mentoring of community based Steering/Advisory
Committees and Boards, including liaising with First Nations, Métis and Inuit
community leadership, respected Elders, active community members and

°°Administration of multi-level admissions, including designing and
implementing; Prior Learning Assessments and Recognition programs (PLAR), and
mature student admissions.
°°Coordination of field programs, and supervision of students and practitioners in
social work and counselling settings.

ABORIGINAL TEACHINGS

Given the rich diversity of Indigenous peoples and Nations, all educators
and service providers must take responsibility to become aware of national,
tribal, community, and personal histories, including art experiences, cultural
values, and lifestyles of Indigenous peoples in various environments, reserve
and urban. This knowledge can be received through respectful engagement in
educational, social and ceremonial events.
Circle Works provides opportunities for experiencing Aboriginal teachings and healing
methods in various locations, both indoors and out.
Some locations of teachings have included:

including Dalhousie, Acadia, Mount St. Vincent, St. Mary's University; in other provinces including New Brunswick,
