Open HeART Groups

When my assistance as a helper is asked for, I encourage individuals to join the Open
HeART Groups I facilitate or establish a specific group for an expressed need. I invite
people to bring family members or friends with them if they prefer to schedule one-on-one
time in addition to Group. Lots of the HeART shown in the Gallery on this site, has been
produced in and/or shared in Open HeART Group Sessions.

I embrace Group Work and Family Work as culturally relevant methods of Healing with.in. Art.
Interdependency is built within and among participants as growing awareness in each others’
Art Making occurs. People are very interested in, and influenced by each other’s work,
experimenting with colors and symbols from each other’s art making. An atmosphere of positive
cultural validation, and support for creative risks, has a ripple effect, with reverberations
far beyond the parameters of the actual experience.

I know that real, deep connection between and among people is a prerequisite to a helping
relationship, a healthy community. In Open HeART Groups, we can all be fellow travelers on
the journey towards healthier lives and worlds.

I work as a Guide who is also on a healing journey. I believe that in order to facilitate another’s
healing journey, I must be willing to walk that path. As a role model, I create art about my
own life in order to demonstrate how art can be used to deal with life as it is, in all its
